There were several things I carefully considered before choosing a preschool for my son :
- Curriculum. Since I had decided from the start to find a school that used the Montessori Curriculum, the first thing I looked for was a school that used the Montessori Curriculum. I also looked for a school that emphasized play and exploration, and focused on Sensory Motor and cognitive development. Furthermore, I looked for a school that taught religious teachings in line with my family’s religion.
- Environment and Facilities. I sought a school with a comfortable environment and suitable facilities for my son. Are the classrooms bright, clean, and child-friendly? Are there open spaces or playgrounds? I also looked for a school with a swimming pool. The physical environment greatly influences a child’s comfort, and I wanted to ensure my child felt safe and happy there.
- Budget. This was one of the most important factors I considered when choosing a school. Before my son was born, I had already started investing in his education and set a budget for preschool. - Teacher Quality and Attitude. A child’s first interaction with a teacher can determine how they view the world of school. So, during the visit, I pay attention to how the teachers interact with the students. Are they patient? Friendly and greet the children warmly?
- Child’s Readiness and Comfort. After gathering information, I also observed my son’s reaction when shown around the school. Does he seem interested? Is he comfortable in his new environment ?. The final decision isn’t solely based on parental judgment, but also involves the child’s feelings.
- Distance and Location. For me, this is the last consideration, as my son’s school is quite far away. However, considering that other requirements have been met, I can reconsider the distance. However, for moms who are concerned about the school’s distance, you can also consider this. Especially if you use public transportation to get to school.
